Why Criminology and Psychology?
Our Criminology and Psychology degree will give you the skills you need for a successful and rewarding career, whether in forensic psychology, another area of professional psychology practice, or in the criminal justice system. You’ll explore causes of offending behaviour and the effects of crime on victims, the criminal justice system and the role of the psychologist within it. With a practical focus and opportunities to gain experience through projects and internships with the police, community groups, restorative justice agencies and psychology consultancies, our graduates stand out from the competition. There are even opportunities for field studies in locations such as Belfast, Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina (additional costs may apply, see course web page for details).
Our degree benefits from accreditation with the British Psychological Society (BPS), offering your first step towards becoming a chartered psychologist, and includes optional modules that allow you to tailor your study to match your own career ambitions. There is the chance to investigate mock crime scenes in our new crime scene house, work on real cases as part of our Homicide Research Group, and help the police tackle street crime by volunteering for our Student Community Patrol. You can also use our forensic interviewing suite and virtual reality equipment to further your understanding of the human mind.
