Prepare yourself for a professional career in educational psychology. Our doctorate focuses on the link between theory and practice.
The programme is delivered by the School of Psychology which provides you with the opportunity to meet leading practitioners and researchers. We have over 50 years of expertise in this area. We also work closely with professional educational psychologists employed by the regional local authorities and other settings.
The course uses inclusive principles and practices. It will support you to become an effective consultant, systems analyst and problem-solver. You'll graduate with a scientist-practitioner mindset.
You'll learn through academic taught modules, professional fieldwork placements and a research project.

Modules include: structures, systems and services for young people; educational psychology in practice; principles and practice in assessment 1; facilitating learning 1; the development of literacy; interpersonal and group skills; developmental psychology in a school and family context; vulnerable young people: troubled and challenging behaviour in schools; applied research methods; the education of children with severe and complex difficulties; principles and practice in assessment 2; facilitating learning 2; strategic psychology in schools; applied research methods; vulnerable young people: family and community context; educational psychologists in local authorities and other settings.
Assessment is by written assignment and progress in supervised outside placements and for individual research topics. There are no formal examinations.
