This course is the first stage you need to complete if you are following the traditional route into secondary education.
It covers the Initial Teacher Education phase of your career.
After the course, this is typically followed by a successful induction year working in a school. This is known as the Teaching Induction Scheme. After this induction year, you will be qualified to teach English in Scotland.
You will gain vital classroom skills and experience. This will be done through two on-campus study modules combined with three school placements.
You will explore aspects of theory for teaching English language and literature to children and young adults.
You will also learn how to effectively support literacy, numeracy, health and wellbeing. This is the responsibility of all teachers in Scotland.
In addition to the core course elements, you'll also be able to choose from a range of elective options. Some of these are focused on employability, others on specific aspects of curriculum and pedagogy.
Small class sizes mean you will benefit from a strong, supportive community of staff and students.
You will receive individual support throughout the course from an allocated tutor.
Additionally, you will be allocated a school-based mentor when you are on professional placement.
