Environmental Science (M05)

An integrated masters is an undergraduate degree combining undergraduate and postgraduate study. The Master of Environmental Science (MEnv) takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding, managing, and protecting the environment. You’ll explore conservation, ecology, ecosystems, environmental management, and renewable energy, while addressing global challenges like climate change, sustainability, and biodiversity loss. The MEnv also covers socio-economic, political, and ethical dimensions. You’ll gain scientific knowledge, technical skills in remote sensing and climate modelling, and transferable skills in communication, project management, and research. By the end of your degree, you'll be equipped to assess environmental issues and propose effective, science-based solutions.

Course Modules

This master of environmental science (MEnv) has four stages, each comprising 120 credits.

Stage 1: You’ll study a 60-credit module introducing topical environmental issues and a 60-credit module exploring scientific ideas that underpin the further study of science.

Stage 2: You’ll study a 60-credit environment science module that investigates our planet and how we affect it, plus choose 60 credits of environment-related option modules.

Stage 3: You’ll study two 30-credit modules exploring ecosystems on land and science communication, plus choose 60 credits of environment-related option modules.

Stage 4: You’ll study a 30-credit module examining critical environment science issues, choose a 30-credit module related to environmental management, and complete your MEng with a 60-credit project module.
