Mechanical engineers help solve practical challenges across transport, energy, manufacturing and more. Our BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering degree gives you the knowledge and hands‑on experience to begin your journey into this exciting and wide‑ranging field.
You’ll learn through project‑based work every year, including industry‑led challenges that help you think creatively and strengthen key skills like teamwork, communication and problem‑solving.
Your first year builds your knowledge of engineering science, applied mathematics and practical project skills. As you progress, you'll explore areas such as solid and fluid mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics and engineering mathematics, developing the analytical abilities essential to mechanical engineering.
Throughout the course, you’ll also get involved in projects connected to ongoing research and industry activity. This gives you the chance to apply your developing skills to engineering challenges and grow your confidence as you move towards your future career.
