Course summary

BSc (Hons) Osteopathic Medicine

The European School of Osteopathy, in partnership with the University of Plymouth, offers a three-year full-time degree that combines academic rigour, extensive clinical education and professional preparation for a career in Osteopathy.

With a long-established heritage in osteopathic education, the ESO is recognised in the UK and internationally for the quality of its teaching, clinical training and contribution to the profession. For decades, students have chosen the ESO for its specialist focus, depth of experience and reputation for producing graduates with the knowledge, skills and confidence required for modern osteopathic practice.

The programme is designed to provide a strong foundation in the scientific, clinical and professional knowledge that underpins Osteopathy. Students study anatomy, physiology, pathology and osteopathic principles, whilst developing the practical skills, clinical reasoning and professional judgement needed to assess and manage a wide range of patient presentations.

Clinical education is a central part of the course. Students complete 1,000 hours of integrated clinical training within the ESO’s on site teaching clinic, gaining substantial hands-on experience in a supervised environment as part of their degree. This allows students to apply their learning in a live clinical setting throughout the programme, building confidence and competence over time. Because clinical training is fully integrated into the course, there is no need to secure external placements independently.

Teaching at the ESO reflects both long standing educational experience and a commitment to high standards in academic and practical training. Learning is delivered through a blend of face to face and online study, supported by problem-based learning and case-based teaching. This approach helps students develop critical thinking, apply theory to practice and build the clinical judgement expected of professional practitioners.

Alongside clinical and academic study, students also develop research capability, professional awareness and an understanding of practice management. This broader preparation supports a range of career pathways, whether working in established clinics, developing independent practice or pursuing opportunities in wider healthcare settings, including the NHS.

ESO graduates are widely respected for their clinical ability, professional standards and breadth of training. Alumni have gone on to successful careers in private practice, multidisciplinary healthcare environments, sport, education, consultancy, research and animal Osteopathy, both in the UK and internationally.

Based in Maidstone, Kent, the ESO offers students the experience of studying within a specialist institution with a strong sense of community. The campus is located a short walk from the town centre and around an hour from London by train. Students benefit from close contact with experienced staff, a supportive learning environment and an institution dedicated solely to osteopathic education and training.

This course is well suited to students seeking a professionally focused and academically strong route into Osteopathy within an institution known for its heritage, expertise and longstanding reputation in the field.
