Studying Education enables you to become a guiding light for others in a world that can sometimes be uncertain.

We help you think about deep and meaningful questions, like: what is the purpose of education? What does it mean to be an inclusive educator? How does gender equality, climate change, AI, and other current issues affect education today?

This course invites you to explore bold questions, sharpen your critical thinking, and envision the future of education.

Our courses involve the study of education in its broadest sense, supporting you to develop an in-depth understanding of research, policy and practice in the field. You will draw on a range of disciplines including education, social policy, philosophy, history, disability studies and child development to develop you as a graduate ready to work in multi-professional occupations. Your intellectual, personal, social, ethical and professional development is at the heart of all our courses, and you will develop important transferable skills such as critical reflection, systematic analysis, communication and collaboration.

Many of our graduates go on to complete a PGCE and become teachers, while others pursue further study through postgraduate degrees such as an MA in Education. Some students explore a wide variety of career paths working with children or adults, including roles in pastoral care, alternative education provision, policymaking, and both commercial and charitable sectors and more. This course allows you to reflect on the change you want to have in the world.

Through a combination of core and optional modules, you'll explore a wide range of educational contexts, from classroom practice to the broader societal impact of education. You can study specific topics such as race, gender, leadership, technology, ecology, inclusion, neurodivergence, and politics. Work placements and community projects offer opportunities that allow you to connect powerful theoretical insights with your own values and aspirations in real-world settings.

Year 1 will support you in orientating to university level study through a range of core modules which include content that is fundamental to the multidisciplinary study of education. Year 1 introduces you to the study of education in general and to each specialism. In Years 2 and 3 you will select your increasingly specialised content to extend your knowledge and understanding of education by drawing on national and international research and practices and the extensive experience and research expertise of our dedicated tutor team.
