Develop your creative voice whilst gaining skills in storytelling and filmmaking whilst studying this combined Film and English Literature degree.
Be inspired by the powerful ways in which both disciplines shape our thoughts, feelings, emotions, and society in general. Central to this cross-disciplinary degree is the development of your understanding and awareness of the rich possibilities of film and literature when placed in dialogue.
In Literature, alongside the Classics, you can study genres like Gothic, children’s fiction, or dystopian literature, or adopt a thematic approach, such as monstrosity in Medieval Literature, writing and climate change, heroism, or globalisation in the 19th century.
In Film, gain a solid theoretical grounding and historical understanding of film looking at key moments in film history which have helped to shape film as we know it today. You will analyse specific films and filmmakers to show how themes like gender, sexuality, race, class, ideology and history are portrayed.
‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time.
