Course summary

Our online law degree, known as an LLB or Bachelor of Laws, is equivalent to a BA or BSc. This degree will prepare you in part for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1) or Bar Practice Course (to qualify as a barrister).

If you have set your sights on other careers, such as politics, business or journalism, the transferable skills you will learn on your law degree will provide an excellent launch pad for these ambitions and more. With our professionally focused qualification, you can expect to learn practical skills coupled with a focus on your future employability.

Throughout your studies, you’ll receive guidance from our lecturing team to help unlock your future ambitions. When it comes to selecting your Options subjects, you’ll be able to choose from one of three Pathways where the modules will prepare you for the following routes:

  • SQE/CILEX - aimed at those looking to qualify as a solicitor or CILEX lawyer

  • Business - ideal if you have aspirations to work with commercial clients, as an in-house lawyer or in a commercial career outside law

  • Individual - for those interested in working with individual clients, working in the criminal justice sector or who are looking to qualify as a barrister

Modules

Course Modules

Year 1

All modules are at Level 4 and are worth 20 credits. All modules are compulsory. The modules are:

• Legal Method and Ethics

• Academic and Career Success

• Public and EU Law

• Contract Law

• Criminal Law

• AI Literacy for the Future Professional

Year 2

All modules are at Level 5 and worth 20 credits. Compulsory modules are in Term 1 and are:

• Critical Approaches in Current Legal Issues

• Land Law

• Tort.

In Term 2, students study three options Level 5 options from the following list*, modules are grouped by pathway to support students in their choices:

• Access to Justice and Legal Services

• Business Law 1

Business Pathway

• Business Law 1

Individuals Pathway

• Access to Justice and Legal Services

• Human Rights

Modules Common to all Pathways

• Real Estate

• Extended Essay

• Law in a Global Context

• Student Law Clinic

Students also have the opportunity to spend Term 2 studying abroad or studying Criminology options.

*All options are indicative and available subject to numbers

Year 3

All modules are worth 20 credits. In Term 1, students study one compulsory module - Equity and Trusts - alongside two options. In Term 2, students study three options.

**The Legal Advice Clinic is a clinical legal education module where students will be supervised to advice real clients by University of Law LLP. Eligibility conditions will apply to this module.

Please note this route is only available for applicants who do not require a Student Route Visa to study with the University.

Applicants who do not possess BBB at A Level or equivalent from a maximum of 3 A Levels or equivalent but can demonstrate a minimum of three years professional work experience evidencing management of people and/or processes and provide a professional reference will be considered. All applicants must successfully pass a formal interview. Applicants must still display the appropriate level of competence in English Language.
