History (SSEES) (Taught)

MA History at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies provides a range of options for studying the history of the SSEES region (Central, Eastern and South-East Europe and Russia) from the early modern period to the present. Students can explore, among other themes, the rise of nationalism, modernisation, transition to democracy, architecture, arts, and urbanisation in territories where mighty empires and many nations have interacted and competed over the centuries: the Russian Empire, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Habsburg Monarchy, the Ottoman Empire, the German Empire, and their successor states.
