Course summary

Are you a Canadian university graduate? This degree is designed for you, and will help you complete your legal education in two years. You’ll study a programme that includes bespoke Canadian Law modules alongside the subjects of English and Welsh Law which form the foundations of knowledge needed for a career on either side of the Atlantic. You can volunteer for pro-bono and participate in competitions specifically focussing on Canadian law.

This two-year accelerated qualifying law degree is tailored to the needs of Canadian university graduates. You will develop your legal reasoning and problem-solving skills while learning to apply both English and Canadian law in its context. The modules on 'Foundations of Canadian Law' and 'Canadian Constitutional Law' will equip you with a critical understanding of the framework and fundamentals of Canadian law and help you prepare for the Canadian National Committee on Accreditation exams. This degree is recognised in England, Wales and Canada and will provide an excellent foundation for progression to a legal career in these countries.

You will join our community of over 500 Canadian law students – the largest group in any UK university. Our student-run Canadian Law Society will not only support you during your time with us, but also provide you with a wealth of opportunities to enhance your prospects as a law graduate. With more than ten years' experience supporting students on their transition to a legal career in Canada, we have the expertise to get you to where you want to go.

Facilities

As a law student, you’ll have access to a wide range of facilities right at the heart of campus, based in the Fielding Johnson building. Our moot court lets you practise running a trial and arguing your case, and you’ll always find a quiet place to study in our dedicated law library. Our Legal Advice Clinic offers free legal advice to the general public on all kinds of issues such as problems at work, consumer rights and divorce and family breakdowns. You’ll help solve real-life problems, supervised by a qualified solicitor.
