Course summary

BA (Hons) Music Production & Sound Engineering degree provides opportunities for you to develop a diverse skill set that will enable you to thrive in the music industry. You will learn from established industry professionals who have worked with artists like Pharrell, Lily Allen, and The Killers, and study alongside fellow producers, engineers, musicians and DJs with whom you will create your own network.

As an undergraduate in this programme, you will have the chance to explore your creativity and discover your artistic voice while developing technical expertise and knowledge in areas such as sound design, sound engineering, remix culture, media composition and game audio. You will also gain a working understanding of the music industry, learning how to maximise revenue streams, market yourself and develop a career strategy.

The course is largely practical but is underpinned by key theoretical principles that inform areas such as sound engineering, sound synthesis and sampling, music composition and more. Building your knowledge in these areas will support your decision-making, boost your confidence in professional settings and make you more employable in a highly competitive industry.

You will be taught in our brand-new Penn Street campus full of state-of-the-art industry standard equipment including three SSL mixing consoles: a 48 channel SSL Duality Delta and two 48 channel SSL Origins; plus two 7-speaker Dolby Atmos immersive technology systems.

Scottish Higher

These are acceptable both on their own and in combination with other qualifications. You will require a minimum of two Advanced Highers or three Highers and a maximum of 5 Scottish higher qualifications.

Access to HE Diploma

Applicants with the Access to HE Diploma should normally have had a break from full-time education before undertaking the Access course. Successful completion of this course requires students to gain 60 credits, with 45 credits at Level 3 and 15 credits at Level 2

English language requirements

All applicants must be able to demonstrate English language at CEFR level B2, equivalent to grade C / 4 at GCSE. Please note this requirement also applies to mature students (21 or over) without formal qualifications who have been admitted based on their admissions test and/or prior experience. All international students requiring visa sponsorship require an IELTS Academic test. If you are an international student applying for a Student Visa and do not currently have a valid IELTS Academic test, Point Blank will be happy to provide a fee waiver of 185 GBP, to be waived from your fees upon successful registration only. Point Blank will not provide further waivers for resits and the IELTS test booking receipt must be provided as proof of test fee paid. Fee waivers are applicable to tests completed post-application date only.

The We Are Europe Scholarship is awarded to EU applicants without settled or pre-settled status in the UK. This scholarship allows the same financial benefits as domestic students by granting EU students the home tuition fee.
