Course Overview

Fascinated by aircraft and spacecraft? On this Aerospace Engineering degree, you’ll apply everything you learn from our experts to the analysis and design of flying vehicles.

You’ll learn about aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, systems, flight dynamics, mechanical engineering and computer-aided design.

You’ll complete a creative aerospace-related research project in Year 3 and a group design project in Year 4, which will provide valuable team working experience.

You’ll graduate with a rounded education in aerospace engineering, be prepared for a wide range of career options, taking ideas from concept through to flight.

Our course is designed to meet the requirements of the Engineering Council AHEP4 for the purposes of professional registration.

  • Get involved with unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) for civil applications and learn the principles of flight testing.

  • Our Engineering Innovation Centre enables you to work on real-world projects with commercial partners in state-of-the-art facilities.

  • Work with a range of vehicles and use different types for design, analysis, simulation and testing.

Aerospace Engineering could lead to a career in many sectors including aerospace, space, defence, automotive, biotechnology, computing, electronics, energy and manufacturing.

If you’re interested in the scientific and mathematical aspects of the discipline you can continue your career in research and teaching, including a postgraduate aerospace research degree at the University.

Our Aerospace Society organises lectures, events, visits and competitions and during your studies you’ll be encouraged to join the Royal Aeronautical Society and to participate in local branch events.
