As part of this course, you’ll:

Specialise your study through one of two distinct routes - Early Years and Children & Young People

Choose the Early Years route if you want to focus on applying a critical lens to young children's education and care within a variety of settings

Choose the Children & Young People route if you’re interested in focusing on critically examining concepts, contexts and practice related to childhood

Recognise and champion every child. Using the latest research you’ll explore the theoretical and conceptual terrain of childhood to inform and develop your own practice

Take a holistic approach and recognise children as active social agents and meaning makers with the ability to both interpret and shape their social worlds.
Diverse perspectives
You’ll explore contemporary issues about children's and young people's social, political, cultural and educational lives in a global context. We have students from a variety of professional backgrounds on the course which encourages diverse perspectives in class discussions.
We draw on ideas from a wide variety of academic disciplines including history, geography philosophy, psychology, sociology and anthropology. You’ll gain a broad and more developed view of the sector and children and young people’s needs.
Flexible learning
You can study this course over one, two or three years. It's delivered through day, evening and Saturday sessions or via distance learning to fit around your working pattern.
