About your course
Develop your creative voice in filmmaking through critical and practical work.

Our MA is an exceptional opportunity for graduate study. Award-winning filmmakers and internationally recognised film academics lead the course, and you’ll be taught by experienced practitioners. You’ll enjoy masterclasses with leading figures in film and television. You also have 24-hour access to the latest professional-grade equipment and post-production facilities.

During your studies, you’ll have the opportunity to try your hand at both fiction and documentary. You’ll learn to:

  • write compelling scripts and research real-life stories

  • pitch and develop ideas for fiction and documentary films

  • cast and direct actors

  • shoot and edit films using professional equipment and software

  • situate your practice in the ever-changing creative industries landscape.

Based on your learning, you’ll produce an independent film (documentary or fiction) to a professional standard.

When you graduate, you’ll have your own showreel – a portfolio of work that will boost your employment prospects. Previous graduates have gone on to roles in the film and television industries.

    Hi there! I’m Sarah, a fourth year medical student at Brighton and Sussex medical School. I am a mature student having worked for the UK Government for the past ten year, and a graduate, completing my first degree in Medical Neuroscience here at the University of Sussex. It really feels like I have come full circle now that I am back here studying medicine! I hope to become an obstetrician once I finish my degree, but we get so much exposure to different specialities I am also excited to explore. I enjoy yoga and cold water swimming which is great as I live by the sea for the first time!
