Course summary

Our one-year Certificate of Higher Education in Sport includes study relating to areas of sports and exercise science, sports coaching and physical education. Study integrates coaching principles and physical education pedagogy with sports science modules to provide a foundation of knowledge and practice of a modern practitioner.
Teaching on the course is aligned to industry-recognised standards and approaches to coaching and physical education as well as being aligned to a CASES accredited approach to teaching and learning. This approach enables you to gain experience, skills, and develop practical competency through authentic learning activities and assessments that will place you in a strong position to apply for future accreditation after graduation, thereby enhancing graduate-level attributes or to progress to a relevant level 5 undergraduate sport programme.
The course provides a balance of cognitive knowledge and practical skills linked and mapped to professional standards, enabling you to work with a broad range of athletes and clients and with institutions and clubs across all levels such as professional and local clubs, charities, health services, and community organisations. Opportunities to work with external clients are embedded within modules which are designed to enhance your competence and ability to work as an autonomous practitioner as you progress through the course.
