Course summary

BSc Economics and Econometrics combines the foundations of economics with statistical and mathematical models to test economic theories and analyse real-world data. You'll gain the skills to make accurate predictions about future trends and unlock valuable insights that can drive business decisions.

Throughout your degree, you’ll be able to choose modules such as International Trade, Financial Economics or Labour Economics. These options can help you discover which career path is right for you.

Outside of the classroom, you’ll have automatic membership to the student-led Nottingham Economics and Finance Society (NEFS) which offers networking opportunities, CV advice, and additional training through their divisions.

We’re first in the Russell Group for the percentage of graduates in sustained employment or further study five years after graduation (LEO data published 2024, 2021/22 tax year). Our graduates are sought after by top employers, including EY, PwC, Deloitte, Civil Service and KPMG (Graduate Outcomes data, 2017/18-2021/22).

Our course will give you the statistical and problem-solving skills needed to evaluate complex issues and prepare you for careers in investment banking, actuarial science, consulting, public policy, or further study.

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - A*AA

Must include Mathematics. A*ABB for those taking four full A levels and completing them in the same year.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - D*DD

Must be in engineering/science/business/construction/ICT (must be combined with an A grade in A level maths)

Access to HE Diploma

Applications are assessed on an individual basis. Where an offer is made, our standard requirements are: Access to HE Diploma 42 Level 3 credits at Distinction plus three Level 3 credits at Merit.

Scottish Higher - AAAAB

Must be combined with Scottish Advanced Highers. GCSE requirements - Mathematics grade A (numeric grade 7), unless taking it at A level.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DD

Must be in engineering/science/business/construction/ICT plus one A level grade A* (the A level must be in maths)

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate (first teaching from September 2016) - D

plus two A levels grades A*A (one of the A levels must be in maths)

Scottish Advanced Higher - AA

Must be combined with Scottish Highers. GCSE requirements - Mathematics grade A (numeric grade 7), unless taking it at A level.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 36 points

Must include Higher Level Mathematics at 6. We will also accept 3 x Higher Level Certificates at 766 which must include Mathematics

WJEC Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales - A

Must be combined with A-Level grades A*A, must include Mathematics.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024) - A

Must be combined with A-Level grades A*A, must include Mathematics.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D3, D3, M1

GCSE requirements - Mathematics grade A (numeric grade 7), unless taking it at A level.

European Baccalaureate - 85%

LIBF Diploma in Financial Studies grade A, must be combined with A-Level grades A*A, must include Mathematics.
