Course summary

If you want to understand how economies really work, our BSc Economics and Econometrics gives you the tools to do it. By combining the foundations of economics with advanced statistical and mathematical models, you’ll learn how to test theories against real-world data and make predictions that matter. These skills are the backbone of modern decision-making, whether in business, government or finance.

You’ll study core areas of economics while also tailoring your degree through optional modules on topics such as international trade, financial economics and labour economics. This flexibility means you can explore different fields and discover where your strengths and interests lie.

Beyond lectures, you’ll automatically join the Nottingham Economics and Finance Society (NEFS). It’s a student-led community offering networking opportunities, CV advice and extra training, helping you build connections and confidence from day one.

Our graduates are highly sought after by leading employers, including EY, PwC, Deloitte, the Civil Service and KPMG. With expertise in data analysis, problem solving and policy evaluation, you’ll be prepared for careers in investment banking, actuarial science, consulting, public policy or further study.

This course isn’t just about learning theory. It’s about mastering the analytical skills that will let you interpret the world, anticipate change and make an impact in whatever career you choose.

Explore economics further by listening to our student hosted The Econverse Podcast.

Contextual admissions

Universities and colleges consider more than grades when assessing applications and may make offers based on a range of criteria. Learn more about contextual offers.

We consider applicants solely on the basis of their merits, abilities and potential – we use exam grades to prioritise applicants but look at a range of factors and aim to give everyone an equal opportunity to show their achievements.

We understand that background and personal circumstances can have an impact on academic performance at school or college. Applicants who are eligible under our contextual admissions policies may be considered for a reduced contextual offer.
