Course summary

This degree is the most flexible way of combining European and/or East Asian languages - you can study one, two or three languages (Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish). You'll also spend a year abroad, immersed in the culture and societies of the countries that fascinate you. We take a multidisciplinary approach to teaching, including modules on cinema, culture, history, politics, society, linguistics and literature

Qualification requirements

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - ABB

ABB including French, German or Spanish.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Applicants will be considered on an individual basis, however evidence of study in the relevant languages at A Level or equivalent is also required.

Access to HE Diploma - D: 30 credits M: 15 credits

A minimum of 30 level 3 credits at Distinction and 15 level 3 credits at Merit is required. Evidence of study in the relevant languages to A Level or equivalent is also required.

Scottish Higher - AABBB

To include French, German or Spanish. Combination of Highers and Advanced Highers accepted. Scottish qualifications can be taken in more than one sitting.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 points

With Higher Level French or German or Spanish at grade 6 or above.

Extended Project

If you offer a Level 3 Extended Project Qualification, we will vary our offer to recognise this. The EPQ can be in any topic.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H1, H2, H2, H3, H3

Including French, German or Spanish at H2.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D3, M2, M2

Including French, German or Spanish.

T Level - Not accepted
