Course summary

Sheffield Hallam University validates the 1-year BEng (Hons) (Manufacturing) Engineering degree course. It provides students with the opportunity to develop and enhance their knowledge and practical skills required to pursue a career in their chosen engineering discipline within the industry.

Our approach offers a combination of online/ distance learning for independent engineering project supervision (industrial project) and a weekly day attendance for the more rigorous academic topics, ideal for those balancing their studies alongside professional and personal commitments.

The program complies with the Institution of Engineering and Technology awarding body’s accreditation criteria. Thus, provides the students with an all-around knowledge of the subject and an improved opportunity to develop towards charted status and future career development.

The course emphasizes the application of cutting-edge topics such as:

  • Advanced manufacturing technologies.

  • Process optimization.

  • Quality management.

  • Supply chain integration.

  • Sustainable manufacturing practices.

They apply theoretical knowledge to real-world manufacturing challenges through project-based learning, and practical experiments.

Students will have an opportunity to work on CAD software, built models, 3D printers and Robotics to develop industrial knowledge and skills to implement and resolve complex industrial problems. Furthermore, the focus will be to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes and systems.

Additionally, students explore emerging technologies and industrial trends, ensuring they are well-prepared to adapt to the rapidly evolving technologies within engineering.

With many practical and hands-on learning experiences, incorporated within the academic delivery, including experimental and advanced software analysis systems, involving laboratory equipment: -

  • PLC kit

  • Control systems equipment and controllers

  • VR studio (in development)

  • SolidWorks (Electrical/Mechanical)

  • Metrology equipment and preparing samples

  • Robotic systems -turtle bot waffle3

  • Raspberry Pie

  • 3D Printers

  • ANSYS Research Licences includes, FEA, CFD etc.

  • Ansys Electrical, Electronics and Electromagnetics

  • MATLAB

  • Simulink with multiple applications for 90 students

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and qualifications necessary to pursue a wide range of career opportunities within the field of engineering:

  • Manufacturing Engineers

  • Manufacturing Product Engineer

  • Engineering Position

  • Work towards Chartered Engineer status

  • Manufacturing Engineering Management

  • Operations Management

They could further their studies through postgraduate research and professional certifications enhancing career prospects.

Contextual admissions

Universities and colleges consider more than grades when assessing applications and may make offers based on a range of criteria. Learn more about contextual offers.

A lower offer may be made based on a range of factors, including your background (such as where you live and the school or college you attended), your experiences and individual circumstances (you may have been in care, for example). This is called a contextual offer and we get data from UCAS to make these decisions.

Historical entry grades data BETA

This section shows the range of grades students (with UK A-Levels or Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diplomas) who received offers were previously accepted with (learn more). It is designed to support your research but does not guarantee whether you will or won't get a place. Admissions teams consider various factors, including interviews, subject requirements, and entrance tests. Check all course entry requirements for eligibility.
