International Relations and Spanish

BA (Hons) International Relations and Spanish is a degree for anyone curious about how the world works and excited by the chance to learn a global language. You’ll explore how countries, organisations and people interact on the international stage, using key theories to understand power, conflict and change. From global systems to individual actions, you’ll learn to question assumptions, think critically and understand how we can shape a better world, supported by expert staff who can introduce you to the core ideas behind international relations.

Alongside this, you’ll study Spanish - one of the most widely spoken languages across the globe. You’ll build strong communication skills by learning to speak, read, write and listen in Spanish, while also exploring Spanish culture, history, and literature. You’ll study in a multicultural community with native Spanish-speaking staff, international students and exchange students, and language assistants, giving you the chance to practise conversing in everyday situations. A major highlight of the course is the year abroad in Spain, where you’ll immerse yourself in the language and culture, grow in confidence and gain unforgettable experiences.

Throughout your degree, you’ll have the chance to tailor your studies through option modules on topics such as human rights, terrorism, climate change and global politics. With strong industry links, research‑active staff and extracurricular opportunities, this course helps prepare you for careers in diplomacy, media, education, global communication, international development and more.
