Course summary

Economics is not just about money. It’s about the choices we make and the effects of those choices on people, businesses, and governments. Our BSc Economics course covers the fundamentals of economics – macroeconomics, microeconomics, statistics, and data analysis. As you progress, you get more choice such as financial, political, behavioural or development economics.

From year one, we’ll support your career development. You’ll have automatic membership to the student-led Nottingham Economics and Finance Society (NEFS). They offer networking opportunities, CV advice, and additional training through their divisions.

We’re first in the Russell Group for the percentage of graduates in sustained employment or further study five years after graduation (LEO data 2021/22 tax year, published 2024). Our graduates are sought after by top employers, including EY, PwC, Deloitte, Civil Service and KPMG (Graduate Outcomes data, 2017/18-2021/22).

Our course will give you the analytical and problem-solving skills needed to evaluate complex issues and prepare you for careers in finance, consulting, public policy, or further study.

Applications are assessed on an individual basis. Where an offer is made, our standard requirements are: Access to HE Diploma 42 Level 3 credits at Distinction plus three Level 3 credits at Merit.

Must be combined with Scottish Advanced Highers.

AAABB if with Higher Maths.

GCSE requirements - Mathematics grade A (numeric grade 7), unless taking it at A level.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
D*D - DD

Must be combined with one A level. BTEC's in Engineering or Science or combined with A level Maths will receive a reduced offer of Dist* Dist + A . BTEC's in Business, Construction or ICT will receive an offer of Dist Dist + A*.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate (first teaching from September 2016)
D

Must be combined with two A levels. BTEC's in Engineering or Science or with A level Maths will receive an offer of Dist + AA. All other subjects will receive an offer of Dist + A*A.

The standard offer is 36, reduced to 34 if the applicant is taking Higher Level Maths.

Must be combined with A-Level grades A*A, reduced to AA if taking A level Mathematics.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal
D3, D3, M1

GCSE requirements - Mathematics grade A (numeric grade 7), unless taking it at A level.

European Baccalaureate - 85%

GCSE requirements - Mathematics grade A (numeric grade 7), unless taking it at A level. B in GCSE Mathematics + C in AS/Core Maths is acceptable in lieu of GCSE Maths grade 7/A. International Baccalaureate Diploma Maths at Standard Level Grade 6 or Higher Level Grade 4 accepted in Lieu of GCSE Maths.

LIBF Diploma in Financial Studies grade A must be combined with A-Level grades A*A, reduced to AA if taking Mathematics.

We welcome applications from students without A level mathematics. Offers to students without A level mathematics are delayed until the point we have received all applications to our programmes. In the past 4 years, all students without A level mathematics (who are predicted to make our entry tariff) have received an offer.
