Course summary

Economics is not just about money. It’s about the choices we make and the effects of those choices on people, businesses, and governments. Our BSc Economics course covers the fundamentals of economics - macroeconomics, microeconomics, statistics, and data analysis. As you progress, you get more choice such as financial, political, behavioural or development economics.

From year one, we’ll support your career development. You’ll have automatic membership to the student-led Nottingham Economics and Finance Society (NEFS). They offer networking opportunities, CV advice, and additional training through their divisions.

This course will give you the analytical and problem-solving skills needed to evaluate complex issues and prepare you for careers in finance, consulting, public policy, or further study. We have a strong reputation for graduate outcomes, with past students going on to work for top employers including EY, PwC, Deloitte, the Civil Service and KPMG.

Explore economics further by listening to our student hosted The Econverse Podcast.

English language requirements

TestGradeAdditional details
IELTS (Academic)6.5(no less than 6.0 in any element) As well as IELTS (listed above), we also accept other English language qualifications. This includes TOEFL iBT, Pearson PTE, GCSE, IB and O level English. Check our English language policies and equivalencies for further details. For presessional English or one-year foundation courses, you must take IELTS for UKVI to meet visa regulations. If you need support to meet the required level, you may be able to attend a Presessional English for Academic Purposes (PEAP) course. Our Centre for English Language Education is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK. If you successfully complete your presessional course to the required level, you can then progress to your degree course. This means that you won't need to retake IELTS or equivalent.

Contextual admissions

Universities and colleges consider more than grades when assessing applications and may make offers based on a range of criteria. Learn more about contextual offers.

We consider applicants solely on the basis of their merits, abilities and potential – we use exam grades to prioritise applicants but look at a range of factors and aim to give everyone an equal opportunity to show their achievements.

We understand that background and personal circumstances can have an impact on academic performance at school or college. Applicants who are eligible under our contextual admissions policies may be considered for a reduced contextual offer.
