Course summary

Want to understand how creativity drives the world, and how the world drives creativity? This course gives you the tools to explore the cultural and creative industries in all their diversity - from music, gaming and performance to marketing, media and beyond.

You’ll gain cross-sector knowledge that reflects the broad reach of these industries, learning how they operate and adapt to technological and social change. The course also offers a global perspective, exploring diverse cultures and international media.

From day one, you’ll combine critical thinking with hands-on experience, applying ideas to real-world projects and building a portfolio that sets you apart.

You won’t just study theory; you’ll explore:

  • What drives innovation?

  • How do politics, technology and economics impact creativity?

  • Why do cultural trends matter?

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all degree. You’ll have the freedom to explore - deepening your understanding of the topics you love while discovering new areas that spark your curiosity. Whether you’re passionate about immersive experiences, cultural leadership or digital storytelling, you’ll tailor your pathway to match your ambitions. Guided by experts, you’ll interrogate big questions about creativity, culture and innovation, and see how they shape strategies across global industries.

Practical and interdisciplinary skills are embedded in the course, and you’ll have the option to participate in the Cultural, Media and Visual Studies department-wide modules. You can also boost your media skills by getting involved with the Students’ Union award-winning broadcast and print groups – NSTV, URN, and Impact Magazine. Plus, you’ll have access to networking and industry insights through your automatic membership to the Creative Student Network.

You’ll graduate ready for a sector that never stands still - equipped with insight, adaptability and practical skills that employers value.

Contextual admissions

Universities and colleges consider more than grades when assessing applications and may make offers based on a range of criteria. Learn more about contextual offers.

We consider applicants solely on the basis of their merits, abilities and potential – we use exam grades to prioritise applicants but look at a range of factors and aim to give everyone an equal opportunity to show their achievements.

We understand that background and personal circumstances can have an impact on academic performance at school or college. Applicants who are eligible under our contextual admissions policies may be considered for a reduced contextual offer.
