The FdA Social and Community Practice is aimed at those who are looking to work in charity, community and social care-based settings. The purpose of the degree is to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to work with vulnerable groups in society and make a positive impact on their lives. The degree will cover supporting individuals across the lifespan, including children, young people, and adults, providing you with varied knowledge and skills that can be used in practice.
The first year of the degree will focus on giving you a foundation of knowledge in social care and social welfare-based theory. You will learn about how humans develop and how this would influence the way you support particular groups. You will also learn about upholding professional conduct and ethics when working in the social care field. The second year of the degree will be focused upon supporting vulnerable groups with complex needs. Social issues such as homelessness, addiction, and anti-social behaviour will be analysed with a focus on intervention and support.
As part of the FdA Social and Community Intervention, you will need to undertake a work placement in a related field. We have links with a range of local contacts including charities that work with a range of service users, seeking support for social issues such as addiction, homelessness, domestic abuse, and poverty amongst others.
