Course summary

This is a one year course which will extend the range of skills and techniques developed as part of the HNC in Computing qualification. It also extends personal qualities and attributes essential for successful performance in working life and thereby enabling you to make an immediate contribution to employment. It will also provide flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation as a basis for future studies and career progression in computing and systems development.

Modules

This is a non-specialist ‘Computing’ pathway, which allows students to complete a Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma without committing to a particular professional specialism.

Over the one-year period, the course compromises of eight modules where three of them are core modules:

Computing Research Project (Pearson-set) – equivalent to two units
Business Intelligence
Plus, FIVE optional units (these are subject to change):

Application Development
Advanced Programming
Emerging Technologies
Database Management Systems
Games Development
These units allow you to improve the technical skills, employability and the software development skills.

Assessment method

The course is assessed entirely through coursework. A variety of assessment methods will be used which are designed to enable learners to meet the learning outcomes for the module and experience a range of methods in preparation for further study or employment. This includes written essays, reports, presentations, video, practical observations (including 95% written assignments, 3% group work, 2% presentations).

Pass in HNC in Computing. All the students must have completed a HNC qualification mainly in a Computing related area to be considered for HND in Computing.

Additional fee information

The fees quoted for home students are for one year of study and include tuition, exam fee, ID card (which gives access to the college and facilities e.g. library) and college registration.

The fees quoted for overseas students are tuition fees only – you will be required to pay an additional amount for
course materials, exam fees, registration (£125) and ID. This additional charge depends on the course you are following and will be £100 to £500. We will notify you of this charge as early as we can.
