Course summary

Study MEng Chemical Engineering with Environmental Engineering to design cleaner, more efficient processes that tackle challenges like waste, pollution and water management. This course includes a year in industry, giving you first-hand experience of the exciting challenges faced by engineers.

Our course is one of the few in the UK to offer Environmental as well as Chemical Engineering within a process engineering department. With a strong focus on industry relevance, you’ll build core design skills and apply them across sectors including food, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and renewable energy.

Fully accredited by IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers) and IOM3 (Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining), the course delivers some of the UK’s strongest graduate outcomes, with excellent employment rates and competitive starting salaries.

Build a strong foundation in chemical and environmental engineering while developing an understanding of what it means to be a professional engineer. Design projects feature throughout the course, giving you opportunities to apply your knowledge to real challenges in energy, waste management, water, and biotechnology.

You will learn in modern, well-equipped labs and design studios with a strong focus on practical and collaborative learning. Alongside technical expertise, you will develop valuable skills in project and business management, data analysis, and team collaboration.

In your fourth year, your industrial placement will enhance your skills and give you direct experience of the challenges and innovations in the field. Support will be provided throughout the process, from preparing applications and interviews to settling into your placement. Academic staff will remain closely involved through regular visits and ongoing contact, making sure your professional experience complements your academic development.

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue professional registration as a Chartered Engineer, following the relevant industrial training and experience.

Contextual admissions

Universities and colleges consider more than grades when assessing applications and may make offers based on a range of criteria. Learn more about contextual offers.

We consider applicants solely on the basis of their merits, abilities and potential – we use exam grades to prioritise applicants but look at a range of factors and aim to give everyone an equal opportunity to show their achievements.

We understand that background and personal circumstances can have an impact on academic performance at school or college. Applicants who are eligible under our contextual admissions policies may be considered for a reduced contextual offer.
