Combine theory with practice: complete a major research project and a placement year for real-world industry experience.
The MSc Biotechnology with Placement Year gives you advanced, practical training in gene therapy, multi‑omics, synthetic biology, genomics, proteomics, genetic engineering and bioinformatics. You’ll build strong research and analytical skills while using modern laboratory technologies.
In your first year, you study core modules in molecular biology, bioinformatics, statistics, and natural product chemistry, and complete a research project that develops your practical experience.
Your second year focuses on an industrial placement. International students receive specialist support through our partnerships with Twin Group and Step Recruitment, who help you prepare for applications and connect you with UK employers in science, engineering and technology. This model has supported thousands of international students and led to strong career outcomes, with many securing full‑time roles after their placement.
The programme offers a powerful route into global careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, bioinformatics, bioscience research or further study such as a PhD.
