Course summary

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Hospitality Management is designed to develop you into a professional, self-reflective leader capable of meeting the demands of a fast-paced and ever-changing global hospitality industry. It provides a strong foundation in hospitality operations and management, preparing you for career success across a wide range of sectors.

The HNC in Hospitality Management aims to:

  • Provide the education and training needed for a variety of management careers within the hospitality, food and beverage, licensed retail, leisure, and tourism sectors — including roles such as Food and Beverage Manager, Front of House Manager, or Events Manager.

  • Equip you with the managerial, operational, and technical skills required to perform effectively in the global hospitality environment.

  • Develop your understanding of the local, regional, and international contexts of the hospitality sector, supporting a global mindset and preparing you for international career pathways.

  • Foster awareness of culturally diverse organisations, cross-cultural communication, and the values that underpin the modern tourism and hospitality industries.

  • Encourage engagement with contemporary issues facing the sector, including sustainability, digital transformation, globalisation, and the environmental impact of tourism and hospitality.

  • Enable you to make an immediate and effective contribution to employment within the industry by combining academic knowledge with practical, real-world experience.

Entry requirements

Entry Requirements

You should hold at least one of the following:

  • BTEC Level 3 qualification
  • A-Level(s) with strong results in a relevant subject
  • Access to Higher Education Diploma from a recognised institution
  • Foundation Diploma
  • UK or International equivalent of any of the above.

Additional Requirements

You should also hold at least one of the following:

  • Five GCSEs at grade C / 4 or above, including Maths and English Language or equivalent
  • Functional Skills Level 2 (Maths and English)
  • IELTS 5.5 or CEFR B2 (or equivalent).

If you do not hold any of the above, you will be required to successfully complete an English and/or Maths test at The London College.

If You Don’t Meet the Entry Requirements

You may still be considered for entry if you can demonstrate strong communication and learning skills, relevant knowledge, work experience, and motivation to succeed — supported by a minimum of one year UK work experience relevant to the course applied for.

If you do not hold GCSE Maths and English (or an equivalent qualification), you will be required to complete an English and/or Maths test at The London College as part of the entry process.
