Course summary

Explore your love for games and become part of a thriving global industry. If your ambition is to make games, then this course builds the skills you need to fulfil that dream and carve out a career in gaming.

Whether you want to be a programmer, a designer, an artist, sound designer or work in the commercial side of the Gaming Industry, you can put your knowledge into practice with fellow students. You’ll make completed, publishable games, using an interdisciplinary approach that distinguishes ACM's Game Development course from the rest. You’ll gain exactly the type of experience needed for employment in the games industry or to start up your own independent game development studio.

As a Game Development student, you’ll learn about the commerce, theory and design of digital games. This knowledge is complemented by the development of skills that are gained in your specialist area (art, audio, design or programming). Most significantly you’ll work in groups to make complete games at every level of the course.

As you progress and in true ACM style, project teamwork will be at the heart of your learning experience, as recommended by the creative industry. You'll also be paired with an expert Mentor, who'll offer a unique insight into the industry and help you build contacts.

This specialism allows you to learn about the global game industry from both an indie and major perspective. You’ll learn how to pitch, market and project manage games in a collaborative environment with games designers, artists, audio designers and programmers. Our creative business course is designed to be accessible and adapt to industry needs. Any student with enthusiasm for games and collaborative working can develop their skills and flourish on this course. Enthusiasm for games and previous experience working in teams provide a good basis for students wanting to study this route.
