Professional Policing

Completing our BSc (Hons) Professional Policing degree will equip you with a high level of knowledge and expertise of carrying out the role of the police constable and the complex requirements of 21st century policing. Although specifically designed for those seeking to become police constables with Police forces in England & Wales, the programme is of value to those interested in other branches of law enforcement and who are considering pursuing a career in the wider policing sector.

You will benefit from our expert staff, our industry standard facilities (including our Simulation facility, which includes mock courtrooms, living facilities, a shop, a custody suite and prison cell) and networks with employers.

University of Staffordshire is licenced by the College of Policing for the delivery of the BSc (Hons) Professional Policing.

Course Modules

Year One Core: Uniform Policing, Smart Policing: Intelligence and Prevention, Introduction to Core Policing Principles, Academic, Professional and Employability Skills.

Year Two Core: Professionalising the Police, Research Methods, Vulnerability, Risk and Public Protection, Conducting Investigations.

Year Three Core: Policing Complexity, Policing in Practice, Dissertation in Policing and Investigation, Option module.
Year Three Optional: Critiquing Contemporary Investigations, Public Protection and Safeguarding, Extreme Offenders, Work Experience for Criminal Justice.

Each module normally includes practice or ‘formative’ assessments, for which you receive feedback from your tutor. Practice assessments are developmental and any grades you receive for them do not count towards your module mark. There is a formal or ‘summative’ assessment at the end of each module. This includes a range of coursework assessments, such as essays, reports, portfolios, performance, presentations, simulations, reflections, final year independent project and written examinations. The grades from formal assessments count towards your module mark.
