Course summary

The Art, Design and Architecture Foundation Pathway provides a dynamic introduction to higher education in creative disciplines. This ‘zero’ year helps you build the academic, practical, and creative skills needed to progress to degree-level study in art, design, and architecture. You’ll explore a wide range of creative practices, from fine art and illustration to graphic design, photography, fashion, costume, interior design, filmmaking, architecture, and architectural technology, developing your ideas, techniques, and confidence along the way.

You’ll have access to the School of Arts and Humanities’ specialist facilities, including studios, workshops, and creative spaces, giving you the chance to practise and experiment outside of timetabled teaching. The pathway supports your transition into higher education, encouraging critical thinking, research, and practical application across a broad spectrum of creative disciplines, while helping you identify your own areas of focus for future study.

On successful completion of this course, you'll be able to continue onto the first year of your degree in the following art and design subject areas:

  • Graphic Design

  • Product Innovation

  • Fine Art and Illustration

  • Photography

  • Fashion and Costume
