Course summary

The course is for those who are already qualified as counsellors. It allows learners to update their skills and knowledge. It also helps learners to access work in Coleg Sir Gar areas such as using cognitive behaviour therapy; trauma work; working with young people, Group work and couples counselling and other subjects. It will be valuable if the future regulation of counselling requires qualified counsellors to have a first degree in counselling.
Applicants will have a counselling qualification having already completed college’s foundation degree or an equivalent qualification.
The BA offers continuous professional development for qualified counsellors following their initial training and offers applicants the opportunity to obtain a full BA honours degree.

Qualification requirements

UCAS Tariff

Learners need to be qualified counsellors and have a diploma in counselling, foundation degree or HND. Alternatively they may hold equivalent qualifications in psychotherapy or counselling psychology. All will need to go through the RPEL (recognition of prior and experiential learning) procedure with the university. This may involve completing the RAL module in the university. Accredited counsellors may also find the course of value. Learners need to be currently practising for some modules. All learners will need to have a current Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check and will be required to pay for this.
