Train to become a registered nurse with our adult nursing degree. Build the clinical expertise, compassion, and skills to lead and deliver person-centred care.

From hospitals and emergency care to community services and specialist clinics, nurses help people when they need it most.

On this adult nursing degree, you’ll develop the confidence, resilience, and practical skills to care for adults across a wide range of healthcare settings. You’ll learn how to assess patient needs, make informed decisions under pressure, communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and deliver compassionate, person-centred care in fast-paced environments.

You’ll connect theory to practice through practical skills sessions in our Clinical Skills Suite facilities, immersive simulations, and hands-on placements. You'll spend 50% of your course on placement, where you’ll gain valuable experience in hospitals, community settings, GP practices, specialist services, and more.

As part of this nursing course, you’ll:

  • Develop practical nursing skills in specialist facilities and simulated healthcare environments

  • Have access to hands-on placements with our extensive links throughout Yorkshire, including Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and Leeds Community Healthcare Trust

  • Build confidence in assessing, planning, and delivering safe, evidence-based care

  • Explore physical health, long-term conditions, wellbeing, and patient-centred care

ACCREDITATIONS

Approved by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), this course maps your learning to the professional standards required to become a registered adult nurse. You’ll explore theory and practice across all four fields of nursing – adult, mental health, learning disabilities, and children’s nursing – preparing you for collaborative healthcare practice.

A minimum of 72 points from two A levels or equivalent, excluding General Studies.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE English Language, Maths and Science at Grade 4 or above (Grade C for GCSEs taken before 2017) or equivalent. Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2 and the Certificate in Adult Literacy and Adult Numeracy are accepted in place of GCSEs. Please note the GCSE science requirement can also be met through a range of level 3 science qualifications including A levels, BTEC and Access to HE Diplomas.

Interview
We conduct interviews as part of the admissions process and suitable applicants will be invited to an interview - interview dates will be published in due course. Invitations are sent via UCAS and you should check your UCAS Hub account for further interview details.
Other
Students will be recruited on the basis that their values align with those of the NHS Constitution, as well as having the right skills and aptitude, in accordance with Value Based Recruitment (Health Education England, Value Based Recruitment Framework, October 2014) and if selected will need to attend an interview. Your UCAS personal statement should include: 1. How you have researched the profession of adult health nursing. 2. Any experience you have of engaging with vulnerable people or working within settings such as hospitals or nursing homes. 3. How you have gained insight into the course e.g. Open days, reading through materials on course webpages or speaking to nurses. 4. Your personal qualities which you feel are related to nursing, including what motivates you to choose nursing as a career. 5. You must also be able to demonstrate how you meet the NMC Key Competencies through the application process. In your personal statement you must provide examples of how you meet the basic skills required for nursing in numeracy, communications, physicality, relationships and IT skills. Practical Experience: Care experience in an adult health practice/clinical setting, such as an acute hospital or a nursing home is desirable but not a mandatory requirement. If you are unable to demonstrate this, you should have experience of engaging with vulnerable people.
