The pharmaceutical industry is one of the largest employers of scientists in the UK. This pharmaceutical science degree will prepare you for a career in this industry.
There’s a whole range of careers for pharmaceutical scientists, from discovering the next potent anti-viral compound to worldwide marketing, or from quality control to the legal world of regulatory affairs. It’s a global industry that’s ever-changing to meet new challenges in healthcare and medicine, as well as developments in research and production.
The content of our pharmaceutical science course has a strong grounding in the chemical and biological sciences, complemented by industry-specific topics such as pharmaceutical regulation and quality assurance.
You’ll develop an in-depth knowledge of topics relevant to the field of pharmaceuticals, their design, development, quality control, and manufacture. To enhance your career potential, there is an emphasis on practical experience of techniques used in the pharmaceutical industry.
Our Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Science courses are based at Glytaff. Glyntaff is surrounded by green open spaces. Our students say they love the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful views.
Home to our health, nursing, police, sport and science students, Glyntaff has state-of-the-art facilities including the latest science laboratories. You will also find a library, two cafes and a free regular shuttle bus to USW Treforest.

If anyone else is in a similar situation, I'd be happy to share my experiences, especially if they're trying to attend university while caring for someone. As a local student, I commute to the University, and I also have dyslexia, which makes it challenging to understand coursework. However, I've developed practical techniques to overcome these hurdles and am willing to share them with anyone who might benefit. I absolutely love my degree, it’s so interesting and rewarding and I’m so grateful that USW offers the Developmental Disorders minor, as that’s my main line of interest. I stay off campus, yet Treforest still gives off that close-knit student-town vibe. Everything is close together, the views are beautiful, and it’s great for hikes when you need a break from school!! I moved from Zim to Wales last year and acclimatised really well, everyone here is so friendly, and I’ve felt right at home since day one.
