Course summary

The HNC in Engineering is a programme of learning designed to meet skills gaps in the current workforce and build today’s talent to meet tomorrow’s needs.  Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering is a local and national skills priority area, as identified by the West Midlands Combined Authority and the government’s Modern Industrial Strategy – and so this is the perfect time to enrol on higher skills Engineering course at Solihull College & University Centre.   On this course, you will develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to achieve high performance in the engineering and manufacturing environment, and this course aims to develop students with enquiring minds, who have the abilities and confidence to work across different engineering and manufacturing functions and to lead, manage, respond to change and tackle a range of complex engineering situations.  The course is mixture of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, with hands-on experience gained at our Engineering Centre at our Woodlands Campus.

Assessment method

This course is 100% coursework. Module 4004 (Managing a Professional Engineering Project) is set by the awarding body (Pearson).

Additional entry requirements

Interview
All applicants are required to attend an interview and will be notified of the date and time via email, a text reminder is also sent the day before the interview. Applicants applying from outside the West Midlands alternative interview arrangements can be made for you, but we strongly encourage all prospective applicants come along to view Solihull College and University Centre’s facilities and meet the teaching teams. As part of your interview and possibly your offer you will be required to provide your original certificates, including Level 3 Diploma, A Levels and GCSE’s or equivalents.
Other
Equal consideration is given to applicants who are currently in relevant engineering work and wish to apply to Solihull College & University Centre. To apply, they must have a minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience, demonstrating technical, management or supervisory duties. Any application must also include a reference from their line manager which supports entry to higher education. Applications for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) are welcomed in accordance with the Solihull College Admissions Policy. Any student wishing to apply for RPL or RPEL should first speak to the Programme Coordinator and provide a full transcript of the work to be considered. The Programme Coordinator will then map the learning outcomes for the previously completed study to those of the programme and make a recommendation to the APL/APEL Committee.

English language requirements

Students who are non-native English speakers, or who have not studied the final two years of school in English, but can demonstrate capability in English at a standard commensurate to IELTS 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 being awarded on individual sections for a level 4, 5 or 6 qualification, will be considered as eligible to apply for the programme/course.
