This is a four year programme that will allow you to qualify in two fields of nursing. Your first field will be learning disability nursing; your second will be children's nursing The aim of learning disability nursing is to place the service user at the centre of all decision making, therefore, teaching methods involve the inclusion of service users and carers in classroom settings and practice placements. You will also be taught by academics who are registered nurses with a wealth of skills, knowledge and expertise in their field of nursing and research.
The children’s nursing field specialises in caring for children, young people and their families in a variety of settings, as part of an interprofessional approach to care. The work of a children’s nurse can range from caring for a sick newborn baby to caring for a teenager with complex physical or psychological needs. The course will empower you to become a flexible practitioner; clinically adept, caring and willing to accept responsibility for the care of children, young people and their families.
Nursing and midwifery courses require clinical placements and strict safeguarding, so students must be at least 18 at the course start to meet professional standards and fully take part in all required activities.
