Course summary
Lights, camera, action! Develop your practical filmmaking skillset, as you train in creative, theoretical, and analytical thinking. Benefit from our links to the BFI, film festivals and the film scene in London and beyond.
Our world often communicates through moving images. Studying film will unlock the history and theory behind cinematic image and language, as well as teaching you the technical and practical aspects of film production.
Taught by international academic experts and award-winning filmmakers, you’ll learn the knowledge and creativity required to write, think, analyse, shoot, and direct, giving you insight into all aspects of filmmaking. Soon, you'll master the tools you need to develop your own films too.

Assessment method
Assessment typically includes coursework and an end-of-module exam, although some modules, including the practical ones, are assessed by coursework only. Final-year students will pursue a sustained piece of research or to develop an extended film production project or long script.

We consider applications from students with the Access to Higher Education Diploma. The minimum academic requirement is to achieve 60 credits overall, with 45 credits at Level 3, of which 18 credits must be at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit or higher. Applications are considered on a case by case basis. Due to the high volume of applications, we do not make offers of study purely on the basis of meeting grade requirements.

Queen Mary University of London welcomes applications from students currently studying Level 3 BTEC qualifications and will consider you for entry to the majority of our undergraduate courses. The typical entry requirements will vary according to the course you are applying for.
Some of our courses require specific subject knowledge which you may not be able to cover as part of a Level 3 BTEC qualification and we may therefore require additional Level 3 qualifications to ensure that you are suitably prepared for relevant courses. A small number of our courses do not accept BTEC qualifications for entry, either as a standalone qualification, or in combination with other qualifications at Level 3.
