Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) matters more than ever. Across every part of society, from workplaces and local authorities to healthcare and community organisations, there is a growing need for people who can lead real change.

The MA Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Practice is designed for individuals who want to understand the complex realities of inequality and work to address them. You will explore key EDI themes including race, gender, disability, age, ethnicity, poverty, and culture, and examine how these shape lives at every level, from individuals and families to communities, organisations, and wider society.

Unlike most postgraduate EDI programmes, this course is built for professionals from any sector. It is delivered entirely online, with flexible, asynchronous content that fits around your schedule, alongside optional fortnightly group sessions to keep you connected with your peers.

Tailored to You

You will develop practical skills in consultation, data interpretation, leadership, policy analysis, and communication, and you can tailor every assignment to your own workplace, sector, or areas of interest. You will also develop digital skills, including the ethical use of AI tools. The course ends with a practice-based Independent Project in place of a traditional dissertation, allowing you to tackle a real EDI challenge that is relevant to your own professional life.

A Qualification That Opens Doors

The MA is a strong credential for senior EDI roles and a clear route into doctoral study. You can also exit with a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma. New intakes begin each October.

There are no traditional exams on this course. All assessments are built around real-world EDI practice and tailored to your own professional context.

You will complete a variety of tasks including written case studies, policy critiques, data analysis exercises, reflective portfolios, and digital outputs such as podcasts, campaign toolkits, or video presentations. Many assessments offer a choice of format, so you can submit work in the way that best reflects your strengths and role.

Every assessment can be shaped around your own workplace, sector, or area of interest, so your learning has a direct impact on your practice from day one.

MA students also complete a practice-based Independent Project, which replaces a traditional dissertation and focuses on a real EDI challenge within their own professional context.
