A nationally recognised teaching qualification designed for those aiming to teach a specific subject such as Art and Design, Performing Arts, Maths, Sport, Business, Health and Social Care, Media and IT.
Designed for students with vocational qualifications and industry experience or graduates of a degree course seeking a meaningful and stable profession in teaching., you’ll be passionate about a subject and eager to share your expertise and knowledge in an educational environment.
THIS COURSE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE LOOKING TO BE A PRIMARY OR SECONDARY TEACHER. IT IS FOR TEACHING IN THE POST-16 SECTOR ONLY.

A 2:1 degree or above is desirable, or a recognised equivalent, in a relevant subject area.

- Part-time applicants will be required to confirm 50 hours (minimum) of teaching, and 20 hours of observation of an experienced tutor in the first year and in second year will be required to confirm 50 hours (minimum) of teaching and 20 hours of observation/departmental duties.
- Interview
- Suitable applicants will be invited to attend an interview day either online or at the Newport Campus, which is an important part of getting to know each other and getting to know the course. You will be asked to give a short presentation about how your experiences and qualifications support becoming a teacher in PcET. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions. - Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) / Disclosure Scotland Check
- An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check on the Child Workforce and Child Barring List and subscription to the DBS Update Service is required. (Overseas equivalent required for non-uk applicants).

Additional fee information
Students have access to a wide range of resources including textbooks, publications, and computers in the University’s library and via online resources. In most cases they are more than sufficient to complete a course of study. Where there are additional costs, either obligatory or optional, these are detailed on the University website (on individual course pages). Of course students may choose to purchase their own additional personal resources/tools over and above those listed to support their studies at their own expense. All stationery and printing costs are at a student’s own expense.
