Course summary

Are you curious about how people learn, what barriers they face, and where learning happens best? Do you wonder whether schools are essential, or if education can truly transform societies and advance human and women’s rights, both nationally and globally? These are just some of the thought-provoking questions you will explore as an Education Studies student at Lincoln Bishop University. This course is dynamic, contemporary, and rooted in real-world issues. It has been carefully crafted to give you a broad, global perspective on education, empowering you to see the bigger picture and understand the profound impact education can have on individuals and communities worldwide.

Whether you aspire to become a teacher or are considering a career in another education-related field, an Education Studies degree from Lincoln Bishop University will equip you with the knowledge, skills, and critical insight needed for your future. Our modules will challenge you to think differently about the purpose and place of education in society, encouraging you to question assumptions and engage with current debates.

You will gain a comprehensive understanding of education in its widest sense, both in the UK and internationally. The course offers deep, reflective learning about contemporary issues in education, directly linked to everyday practice. You will debate education policy, investigate the forces driving educational change in England, and critically examine different approaches to schooling around the world.

A distinctive feature of our programme is its focus on your development as a practitioner. Throughout your studies, you will be encouraged to build your own educational philosophy and will be supported in developing strong employability skills through work-based placements. Each year, core modules include placements in schools or other educational settings, with structured tasks designed to give you valuable, hands-on experience.

Assessment method

Assessment on the Education Studies course at Lincoln Bishop University is designed to be varied, supportive, and relevant to your future career. Rather than traditional examinations, you will be assessed through a diverse range of coursework, allowing you to demonstrate your understanding and skills in multiple ways.

You will complete essays, reports, reflective logs, and portfolios, all of which help you develop your academic writing and critical thinking. Oral and multimedia presentations are also an important part of the course, giving you the opportunity to work collaboratively and communicate your ideas effectively. Throughout your studies, you will take part in one or two group oral or poster presentations, building your confidence in presenting to others.

As you progress, you will gradually develop your multimedia skills, culminating in your final year with the creation and sharing of a short, assessed multimedia film with your peers. This hands-on approach ensures you are well-prepared for the demands of modern educational and professional environments.

From your very first year, you will steadily build your writing abilities. You will complete a portfolio of shorter written pieces and two longer essays, receiving constructive, formative feedback from your tutors to help you grow academically and refine your skills.

Our assessment methods are designed to support your development, encourage creativity, and prepare you for a wide range of future opportunities in education and beyond.
