Course overview
Performance placements in national orchestras – along with tailored training and mentoring schemes with industry professionals – form the foundation of this master’s programme.
The course equips you with the technical, stylistic and artistic skills that underpin orchestral performance at the highest level.
You’ll get one-to-one training from professional orchestral musicians, but also take part in a variety of solo and ensemble activities so you can immerse yourself in the art of performance.
Placements with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (BBC NOW) and the Welsh National Opera (WNO) are embedded into the course. And with these organisations’ regular professional development seminars and mentoring schemes, you can easily lay the groundwork for a career as a professional orchestra musician.
During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:
For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.
The following entry points are available for this course:
Entry is by audition. Minimum entry requirements usually include an undergraduate degree in music or an equivalent qualification. Applications from candidates who have been studying or working in another field will also be considered.
