Biochemistry answers the ultimate questions about how living organisms work. On this course, you'll explore the breadth of the discipline, from DNA to proteins, single molecules to cells.
Upon completion you'll have gained the skills needed to become a biochemist through the modules you have selected to match your interests, through additional opportunities to enhance your degree like a Year in Employment, and by completing a final year project that offers the chance to enhahe with science in a laboratory. or in business.

Throughout this course you'll explore the breadth of the discipline, with a mixture of compulsory and optional modules that offer you the flexibility to tailor your degree to your interests and ambitions.
Year 1: Foundations of Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Physiology, and Chemistry
Year 2: In-depth study of protein structure and the flow of genetic information, with options in Applied Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, or Immunology
Year 3: Emphasis on the molecular mechanisms underlying protein and cellular functions, with exploration of disease implications
Year 4: Focus on Independent Research, scientific communication, and skills development

You'll learn, and be assessed, through a range of methods designed to equip you with the skills you need for success after graduating.
The learning activities include lectures, classes and tutorials, coursework, individual and group projects, and independent learning.
The assessment methods include coursework, laboratory reports and essays, individual and group projects, oral presentations, written and practical exams.
The following entry points are available for this course:
GCSEs: The University of Southampton requires all applicants to achieve at least a Grade 4 in English and Mathematics GCSEs (taken in England) or a Grade C in both subjects (where taken in Northern Ireland or Wales). Some degree subjects stipulate specific additional GCSE minimum grades, which will be specified as part of the individual degree programme entry requirements.
