Course summary

This postgraduate programme offers advanced study in DJ performance and broadcast practice, positioning DJing as both a professional craft and a field of critical enquiry. Designed for experienced DJs, producers and electronic musicians, the course develops technical fluency, artistic identity and professional awareness across contemporary playback and broadcast environments.
The programme provides the expertise and infrastructure to support all major forms of contemporary DJ practice. Students refine their skills across analogue turntablism, CDJ-based performance, controller-led workflows and hybrid digital systems, alongside training in radio, live streaming and online broadcast platforms. At its core, the course recognises DJing as adaptive playback: the real-time shaping of recorded sound in response to audience, space and technology.

A distinctive tiered structure allows students to progress according to their ambitions. The Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits) focuses on advanced performance and broadcast skills. The Postgraduate Diploma extends into branding, event curation and industry development, with opportunities to contribute to live events and broadcast activity. The full MA culminates in independent research and original work suitable for professional dissemination or progression to doctoral study.
Based in Liverpool, a globally recognised centre for electronic music and club culture, the programme maintains strong links with the city’s music and broadcast communities. Graduates leave with advanced performance capability, professional insight and a critically informed understanding of DJ culture and technology.
