This Creative Computing degree course explores the dynamic intersection of creativity and technology, where imaginative ideas meet innovative tools to produce surprising, useful, and impactful outcomes.

Year one
You'll build a strong foundation in creative computing by exploring both the technical and creative aspects in equal measure. You’ll learn to code through modules focused on programming fundamentals and web development, while also diving into creative problem-solving, experience design, and coding for the visual arts. These modules are designed to help you understand how technology can be used as a powerful tool for creative expression and innovation.
Year two
You'll deepen your understanding of core principles while beginning to specialise in areas such as immersive media and physical computing. Through a mix of core and optional modules, you’ll collaborate on industry-informed projects, explore emerging technologies, and experiment with cutting-edge tools and platforms—gaining practical experience and refining your creative and technical focus.
Year three
In Year three, the focus shifts to launching your career, with an emphasis on creative research, professional insight, and entrepreneurial thinking. You’ll develop a distinctive, industry-ready portfolio of creative computing artefacts, supported by modules that encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.
Areas of exploration may include creative applications of AI, casual web and mobile game development, and cybersecurity - equipping you with the skills and confidence to thrive in the evolving digital landscape.
Year two -
Extend your knowledge. You'll advance your understanding of programming to include object-oriented techniques, as well as working with real time data. You'll also experiment with emerging technologies and collaborate with industry partners on live briefs as you further investigate the field of creative computing. Optional modules provide the flexibility to get a flavour of the breadth of Creative Computing by gaining insights into 3D animation, games development, data visualisation or responsive web design.
Year three -
Develop an industry-facing portfolio to kickstart your career. In your final year, you'll continue to enhance your skills as a creative technologist by collaborating with others across different subject areas and exploring professional and entrepreneurial development. Optional modules give space for creating original, playful ideas within the areas of Creative AI or web games. Alternatively, you may wish to focus on the gaining an understanding of field of cyber security or develop games with purpose in serious games.
A Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where you undertake a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between your second and final years of undergraduate study. You can engage in multiple placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) yourself, with support from the Careers team.
