Course summary

OVERVIEW

You’ll explore every aspect of the subject and learn to support businesses across different sectors. You’ll focus on the fundamentals of accounting and finance, and as you master the basics, we’ll start to explore other areas like governance, ethics and law.

Throughout your time with us, to help you develop the skills you need to stand out, we’ll assess you in different ways. Instead of a formal exam, you might prepare a presentation, write a report, or work in groups to solve a business problem. We’ll also provide work integrated learning experiences to enhance your employability skills and career readiness.

Digitalisation has transformed this sector, so you won’t be spending hours working out calculations on paper. We’ll show you how to use the latest software and AI that professionals use in practice.

This course has a foundation year available.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Industry-standard software – You'll have regular access to our Bloomberg terminals to familiarise yourself with professional software used in the finance industry.

  • Enhance your employability – Through activities including internships or volunteering. With our award winning 'Rise at Manchester Met' programme, you can gain extra academic credits towards your degree.

  • Study your way – Enrol on a three-year course and then decide if a placement or overseas study is right for you once you have started your studies.

  • Professional links – Our professional links with ICAEW and CIMA means that our course content is closely aligned with their professional frameworks. This gives you the associated knowledge to complete further certifications with them after you graduate.

  • Taught by industry experts – Our teaching staff are experienced practitioners, active researchers in their fields and consultants to large accountancy firms. They will share their insights and connections throughout your course.

  • Study in a financial hub – Manchester is one of the UK’s leading financial centres, and our strong links with employers, from global firms to local start-ups, means you'll benefit from guest lectures, networking events and placement opportunities.
