Course summary
Accelerate your career in the biosciences with our four year Biochemistry with Neuroscience Integrated Master's MSci. From understanding the structure-function relationships of the major building blocks of life, to designing and conducting an extended MSci project, you will develop the sophisticated problem-solving, communication, technical, analytical, and research skills that will prepare you for a career in PhD research, industry, or the broader bioscience sector.
Why choose this course?
-
Apply key biochemical concepts to the study of the nervous system and understand the molecular basis and treatment of conditions from diabetes to Alzheimer’s
-
Gain advanced research skills by critically evaluating scientific literature, undertaking an extended year-long research project, formulating a research strategy and producing a grant proposal
-
Develop hands-on practical skills in our state-of-the-art David Attenborough and Central Science Laboratories
-
Benefit from a comprehensive programme of academic and professional development workshops to enhance your employability skills
-
This programme is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology
Our Biochemistry with Neuroscience degree offers a focused exploration of key biochemistry concepts, ranging from the structure-function relationships of the major building blocks of life, such as nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and proteins, to the regulation and control of metabolic pathways, gene expression, and cellular activity. As you progress through the degree you will apply core knowledge in these areas to understand the structure and function of antibodies, hormones and cell receptors and their roles within multicellular organisms, as well as experimental methods applied in areas of biotechnology and genetic engineering.
A comprehensive laboratory programmes runs throughout the course utilising our state-of-the-art David Attenborough laboratories, where you will develop key skills in diverse biochemical and molecular biology techniques. Here you will directly apply theoretical knowledge from across the programme and develop skills in experimental study design and optimisation through experiential, enquiry-based learning, culminating in your final year research project.
