This innovative degree is tailored for those already working or volunteering in education, care, or community settings. You’ll attend campus one day per week, blending face-to-face teaching with real-world application in your workplace.
Throughout the year, you’ll build on your previous study and professional experience, exploring contemporary issues, leadership, and practitioner research. You’ll join a vibrant community of students from diverse backgrounds, broadening your perspective and developing skills that employers value.

Assessment is inclusive, developmental, and rooted in real-world practice. You’ll demonstrate your learning through essays, presentations, group discussions, analytical portfolios, reflective reports, and a substantial independent research project. All assessments are designed to help you connect theory with practice, build your academic confidence, and showcase your professional skills. Individual feedback and tutorial support are also embedded throughout the programme.
The following entry points are available for this course:
• Applicants will typically have 240 HE credits from a Foundation degree or a HE Diploma in a relevant field of study.
• Applicants are expected have a current (or prospective) voluntary or paid employment in a relevant setting for a minimum of 360 hours per academic year equating to 12 hours per week of study.
• Typically, applicants are expected to have three years of experience in a voluntary or paid role working with children.
• Students are required to complete and submit a signed Workplace Agreement, endorsed by the head teacher or workplace manager of the setting where they are employed or volunteer. The Workplace Agreement formalises the tripartite partnership between the student, the setting, and the University, and confirms that the student holds a current and valid Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.
