Year 1
You’ll build a strong foundation in civil engineering principles and their role in business, society and sustainability and learn skills in surveying, structural analysis, material science, soil mechanics and engineering geology, supported by practical labs and fieldwork. Maths and statistics for engineering problem-solving are introduced, alongside an understanding of professional practice, health and safety and environmental considerations. You’ll also take part in a group project linked to the Engineering for People Design Challenge, applying your learning to real-world scenarios.

Year 2
You will apply your knowledge to more complex civil engineering and construction management tasks and deepen your understanding of structural analysis, soil and fluid mechanics and reinforced concrete design, while learning advanced construction methods and technologies. Specialist modules in construction project management and computational mechanics introduce you to planning techniques, lifecycle management and numerical modelling, giving you the skills to analyse and simulate engineering problems.
