Course summary

How do diseases spread, and how can we protect communities? Understanding infection and immunity is key to saving lives. This course explores pathogenesis, virulence mechanisms, and the science behind vaccines, antibiotics, and immunotherapy. Gain the skills to combat global health challenges and develop life-saving treatments.

You will be involved in research that covers five key themes:

  • Pathogen biology and genomic

  • Diagnostics

  • Immunology and pathophysiology

  • Therapeutics and vaccinology

  • clinical and tropical infection.

Studying this module places you in an institution that continues to drive medical advancements. You'll learn from experts in all aspects of the physiology, molecular biology, immunology and diagnostics of infectious diseases.

You will get advanced training in biomedical research, helping you interpret data and develop key technical skills, including tissue culture, flow cytometry, gene cloning, microbiological techniques, and clinical specimen handling.

You'll also build specialist knowledge in clinical biomedical research, learning how to conduct studies in a clinical setting and apply strategies to improve healthcare practices.
